Emily Procter

Actress, Activist & Entrepreneur

Years as a camper: 2

Current Profession/Title: Actress, Activist & Entrepreneur

Can you provide a brief overview of what you are currently involved with?

I founded the non-profit Ground Breakers, Inc. three years ago in 2019. Its programming is used to reinforce and build community through better understanding. We focus on social/emotional learning and conflict management through language and the importance of truthful personal narrative.

How do the values or skills you learned at Camp show up in your everyday work and/or personal life?

I wasn’t good at goal setting when I was a camper, but Seafarer introduced the idea to me. As an adult, I see those Blue and Green Books and recognize that they laid the groundwork of my understanding that great achievements are really just a series of small doable steps.

What do you believe have been some of your greatest personal and professional accomplishments?

My proudest personal accomplishment is my relationship with my daughter, Pippa (herself a Seafarer camper). Professionally, I feel lucky to have been able to enjoy a long career in entertainment and very proud to be using that experience to talk about personal narratives.

What advice would you give your younger self and current campers?

Believe it or not, you have already begun the steps toward realizing your career goals by going to Camp. Drive coupled with teamwork is everything a person needs to succeed. The best advice I can offer past that is to live by your own definition of success, not others. Go for what makes you happy! Girls are powerful! Never shrink yourself to fit in someone else’s thought bubble.

What superpower would you like to have and why? I would love to be invisible. It seems like an easy way to accomplish any number of challenging tasks. Plus, it would be incredibly useful for pulling pranks!
