We believe YMCA Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer staff are the best in the world of overnight camping. For more than 70 years we've prided ourselves in developing and selecting the best counselors to be a part of our staff. Many of our counselors grew up at Camp as campers and were a part of our CILT (Counselor In Leadership Training) program.
Counselors are important, positive role models and powerful examples for our campers. They are expected to be of strong moral character, have a passion for working with youth, possess a high level of energy and enthusiasm and exemplify our character traits of respect, responsibility, caring, honesty and faith in God.
Our seasoned staff is trained first and foremost in safety. All Camp staff participate in a full, seven days of staff training before campers arrive for the summer. We also hold in-service training during camp. Staff are also trained on the activity they are working in for the summer, cabin management, the emotional and physical well-being of campers, communication, leadership, leading devotions and more.
From technical skills on activities to relational skills within the cabin and with each other, our staff is vigilant, and they are constantly looking out for the well-being of your child and for opportunities to encourage the growth and development of campers.
