Current Profession and Title: Designer of the Goldbug Collection
How do the values or skills learned at Camp show up in your everyday work or personal life?
A lot of my work deals directly with customers and small business owners. We sell our Goldbugs in about 57 stores nationwide, so my physical work is designing and creating our Collection, but the majority of my day-to-day work is interacting with clients. Camp Seafarer ingrained an importance of strong character and honesty that has been the backbone of my business. I would rather chat and develop a relationship with you than sell you something. People will buy a lot of things in life but to me, the way a brand/person makes them feel is so much more important. We select a piece from most of our collections and give a portion of the proceeds to a local charity. We also donate items to auctions for local schools, charities, and fund-raisers, as I want to use my work to better our community in any way possible. I think a lot of my passion for giving back I learned at Camp and, most importantly, that Character Counts, ALWAYS!
What person or situation influenced you most at Camp and why did they/it impact you?
Everyone at Camp is amazing! But I think the Character Counts award impacted me the most. It taught me that you should always do the right thing, especially when no one is looking. And that a small act of kindness can change someone’s day and even their life! The winners always seemed like such examples of kindness and people I always admired. I remember smiling and feeling so proud that my friend and co-counselor Julia Fariss won the award. Character Counts is still one of the highest honors in my mind! And I think the whole world could be a better place if more people really just understood how much Character Counts.
