How do the values or skills learned at Camp show up in your everyday work or personal life?

Oftentimes people at camp would go the extra mile, from taking the time to write a note of encouragement to sneak into their mailbox, or hang back to help a fellow staff member pick up all the balls left out on the soccer field. Those small acts went a long way and today, nearly 15 years since my last summer at camp, I still try to do the “Real World” equivalencies.  Calling someone to meet for coffee, dropping off a meal at a friend’s house, or helping a small business owner set up a website for his business. Camp taught me how much joy there is in not only helping others, but also “seeing” them as a person to help them feel supported.

What person or situation influenced you most at Camp and why did they/it impact you?

Meredith Stewart influenced me the most at Camp because she had a way of connecting and making people feel included. She also taught me how to manage responsibility and “let go” of stress over whether or not everything is “done” in advance of an event or activity. She seemed so confident that “things fall in place, just in time.” And I learned throughout the summer that with proper planning, delegation, and leadership, things all did work out in the end. It was a great lesson in learning to still have time to laugh, play and have fun, and not to stress over things I can’t control. It was an invaluable lesson that I carry with me to this day!

Favorite Camp food: Super Night Cookout Hamburgers with Doughboys!

Favorite book: It’s a tie between “Where the Crawdads Sing” and “The Great Alone”

Favorite sports team: Wake Forest Demon Deacons!

What is a goal on which you are working? Trying to break 80 in golf, as well as a Trail 50k Race in a National Park.

What would you eat if you could only have one food for the rest of your life? Japanese sweet potatoes!
