Hurricane Dorian Update

September 6, 2019 2:45 PM

Hurricane Dorian is far from over for many but, for Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer, the worst has passed. We are relieved to report that while there is some damage, it is minimal and in no way comparable to the destruction of Hurricane Florence.

Our staff on-site at Camp are safe, and we are working to ensure that is the case for those in our Camp family who were in their homes in the surrounding area during the storm. Both Camps are currently operating on generators, and the main issue appears to be debris. The water is still receding and there does appear to be some erosion on Hobie and Sunfish Beach at Camp Sea Gull along with minor roof damage on a few cabins. Camp Seafarer’s main issue currently is the tree limbs that fell during the storm but there is no structural damage that can be seen. To see photos, please visit our Facebook Album here.

The piers at both Camps appear to be okay and will be assessed more thoroughly in the coming days. As of now, we will be conducting programs as planned next weekend.

We can’t thank our Camp community enough for their outpouring of support, offers of assistance, and prayers during these past few days. Please continue to keep our Camp Community in Pamlico County and beyond in your thoughts.

Check back here for updates regularly and on our Facebook pageSea Gull Instagram and Seafarer Instagram accounts.

Over the past few days, our teams have been working to secure all facilities at Camp Sea Gull, Camp Seafarer, and The Outpost in Morehead City in preparation for the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian.
After Hurricane Florence, we committed to not only repairing both Camps, but to structurally enhancing the buildings, docks, piers and landscapes and are confident in our preparedness for the storm.  We are not hosting any programs on site this week but look forward to next week’s activities. Be sure to check back for more updates and, as always, thank you for your prayers and support. Stay safe!
