Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer are excited to announce that we will host the 2015 USODA Southeast Championship this Fall! Top optimist sailors from the Southeast Region, under the age of 16, will travel to Camp Sea Gull the weekend of September 18-20 to compete. The top 25% of participants in this regional event will move on to the Team Trials, which qualify sailors for the international championships.
The optimist is a boat used by over 150,000 youth in over 110 countries. Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer have integrated the Optimist into their fleet of instruction boats and their US Sailing Small Boat teaching platform. We are expecting over 100 sailors to compete in this event and we encourage current or former campers to register as well! Visit www.USODA.org to register.
Our 5-mile stretch of open water, family-friendly facility, on-site meals and housing, fun activities for everyone and evening program plans make this a uniquely all-inclusive regatta experience. Please visit the event page to learn more about on-site accommodations during the regatta.
Camp Seafarer alumna, Taran Teague, is serving as our Principal Race Officer for the event. Taran played a vital role on the Race Committee when Camp hosted the 2012 USODA Southeast Championship. Gail Bernstein will lend her extensive experience as Head Judge.
Blair Overman will serve as co-Regatta Chair, along with key volunteers Keith Johnson, Shelly Johnson and Virginia Powell. Volunteers from the local community and our large Camp alumni base donate their time and energy to help run the event. This is a great way to get involved! If you are interested in volunteering, please email 2015OptiSE@gmail.com for more information.
