Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is a Seafarer only activity and requires an extra fee. Campers must be at least 9 years old to participate.

Our horses are leased each summer from St. Andrews University’s Equestrian program in Laurinburg, NC.

Campers may choose to take horseback riding lessons, horsemanship (ground) lessons and/ or trail rides. Campers must supply their own riding equipment, which includes an ASTM-SEI approved helmet, riding boots, and long pants.

Horseback Riding Lessons

In horseback riding lessons, campers receive instruction in hunter seat equitation using the forward riding system. There is a 1:4 staff to camper ratio. Lessons are offered for beginner and intermediate in one-hour sessions for three or six days per week*. Advanced classes are two-hours and meet three times per week.

Horsemanship

Horsemanship lessons offer a chance for a camper to practice skills on the ground including grooming, basic horse care, first aid, barn management and farm safety. Horsemanship lessons are not riding lessons and are one hour for three days per week.

Trail Rides

Camp Seafarer’s horse trails consist of a series of interlocking trails which compromise about 150 acres of beautiful serenity. Riders can expect to see a variety of habitats and wildlife. Once they are on the trails, campers will find that trail riding is a fun and educational equine activity that allows them to enhance their riding skills outside of the ring and enjoy their horse in an open and natural environment. Each ride is guided by our knowledgeable staff and will offer a unique experience that is for all levels of riders from the beginner to the advanced. This ride can be done in a Western seat or English seat and will be the rider’s choice.
