Henry DeHart

Executive Vice President of Camping Service
Sea Gull Seafarer
What is your Camp history?

My dad was a camper, counselor, Sailing Master at Seafarer during its first six years and then a volunteer physician for Seafarer. As such, I grew up at Camp. I was a camper for six years, and a counselor for seven years. I spent time on sailing staff, sailing UA at Sea Gull, sailing UA at Seafarer, and a Head Counselor of Camp I. I've been on leadership staff for Camp for more than 13 years.

Where were you born?

Fort Ord, California. But I grew up in Greenville, SC.

Where did you go to school?

Emory University. But I’ve adopted North Carolina State University as my “home” team through my wife and lots of Camp friends who are alumni.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Time with family, sailing, reading, movies, tennis, performing arts (as patron, not a participant)

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A movie director, architect or graphic designer. Writing and teaching were also on my list.

If you could visit anywhere, where would you go?

Colombia – my wife’s father was from Colombia and she still has family there. Second, maybe Japan. Third, Europe.

What is your favorite part of working at Camp?

Helping people be the best versions of themselves. Camp served me in that way. I always felt at my best at Camp. I love the idea that the work we do helps our staff and campers be at their best and shows them what excellence looks like. We help our participants be better and, by extension, they make the world a better place. Good stuff!
