Sailing - Cruising

Once campers achieve the Small Boat Sailor Certification and are interested in cruising, the next step is the Flying Scot program. Campers spend a few weeks working with other campers and a sailing instructor to learn the basics of sloop-rig sailing. They’ll drill as both skipper and crew, learning boat handling, nomenclature, capsize procedure, and more.

After Flying Scots, campers move up to Lightnings. Campers spend at least one full 4-week session reviewing boat handling, nomenclature, rudderless sailing, sailing mechanics and more.

The culmination of Sea Gull and Seafarer’s cruising program is the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification. This includes classroom and on-the-water sessions with a written test and on-the-water practical required at the end.
