Sailing

Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer’s sailing fleet consists of Optis, Sunfish, Lasers, 420s, Flying Scots, Lightnings and Keelboats.

Campers learn to sail on our smallest boats, Optis and Sunfish. Sailing ranks are taught in small classes with an instructor-to-camper ratio of 1:6.  Each instructor utilizes a multitude of teaching techniques and environments, such as classroom sessions, land drills, water drills and practical demonstrations to explain the material. Campers are coached from within the boat and outside of it. This technique ensures campers have the opportunity to manage a vessel on their own in a safe environment.

As a US Sailing Training Center, the culmination of our introductory sailing ranks is the US Sailing Small Boat Sailor Certification which is equal to Camp's Sunfish or Opti Master rank. When campers master small boats and achieve the Small Boat Sailor Certification, they can choose to apply those skills at the next level in either the Racing or Cruising track.

Each member of our sailing staff is US Sailing Counselor and US Sailing Instructor Certified. These certifications are nationally recognized.
