A Father and Son Say Thank You
Jack loves Camp. . . so much in fact that he has been known to sport his swim band during the school year. Moreover, if Jack had his way he would wear his Sea Gull penny and Under Amour shorts every day of the week. “Jack loves Camp and looks forward to this experience every year” says Jack’s father. Imagine then the tough conversation that the family had when Jack’s father had recently been laid off from a 10 year career with the same organization. “We came to the realization that camp may no longer be an option for our family. And this realization crushed Jack.” said his father. “As parents, we want the best for our children. I want Jack to grow up in a safe, protective, and loving environment that will harness his personality, value, and character. And to our family, this place was found in Camp Sea Gull.”
The family then learned how Camp is able to provide camperships for families that fall into circumstances like the one they had just found themselves in. The family applied for financial assistance, and this past summer, Jack was able to return to Camp. And his return to Camp was possible because of those alumni, parents, staff, and friends of Camp who donate each year to the Camp Annual Fund.
Jack writes in this thank you note at the end of the summer, “I really loved the blob. . .I got to shoot skeet and a 22 mm rifle. It was the best thing ever!” Not only did the Camp Annual Fund give this camper another summer to develop skills on Land and Sea, it also gave him an opportunity to learn true character. The thank you note continues, “Camp taught me courage, responsibility, and respect. It taught me to be confident, competent, and have stronger values.”
Of the summer experience, Jack’s father says, “This is the best gift a parent could hope for. We are forever grateful for the Camp Annual Fund and all of the donors that contribute to make this a possibility for my son. Thank you!”
