Campers, Parents
Are camp uniforms required?
A: Camp Seafarer 2-week (Mariners) and 4 week campers should have at least one Middie. Camp Sea Gull 2 week (Mariners) and 4 week campers should have at least one Camp Sea Gull T-shirt. Otherwise, T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits are acceptable attire.
May children leave camp during the session?
A: Except for scheduled program trips supervised by Camp personnel, campers may leave Camp only with their parents or legal guardians. Campers are discouraged from leaving Camp for extended periods of time.
What if my child runs out of toothpaste or wants a new T-shirt?
A: We’ve got it covered. Your child will have a spending money account in the Camp Store. Toiletry items, clothing and anything else they may need will be available for your child to purchase while at Camp.
Can my child specialize in a specific activity such as tennis, golf, sailing, etc.?
A: Of course! Campers choose the activities they participate in during the day. If they are pursuing a special interest, we have programs set up to guide them through our rank system and offer more time on the activity of special interest.
Parents
How does the camp handle food allergies?
A: With care! Please include information about food allergies on your child’s health examination form. An additional letter with specific food substitutes must be mailed to the Camp Director prior to May 1. Our Director of Food Services will monitor your child’s meals and make the necessary adjustments.
How can I communicate with my child?
A: Campers use letters as their primary form of communication. 4-week campers write home twice a week, and parents receive a weekly update from your child’s counselor.
Mariners write home twice a week, and you will receive one written update from your child's counselor. Starter Campers write home once, and parents receive one written update from your child's counselor.
Campers love receiving letters and look forward to mail time each day! Through our optional email service, you may choose to email your child and you can see photos of Camp. Photos are uploaded several times each week to give parents a snapshot of Camp in action.
Is there religious emphasis at camp?
A: Nightly devotions and Sunday Worship Services are conducted based on Judeo-Christian principles. Devotions and services are non-denominational with no intent to teach doctrine or impose religious beliefs. We focus on living by the values listed on our Good Sport Award: Caring, Courage, Honesty, Integrity, Respect and Responsibility.
How do you handle homesickness at camp?
A: Our staff is trained on how to recognize homesickness and how to encourage campers through this period of growth. Mild cases of homesickness are common when a child is adjusting to a new environment. In the case that homesickness persists, additional Camp personnel will assist in supporting the camper and communicate with parents. Parents may help by sending reassuring letters and emails without promising to pick up their child. Our goal is to develop independence and foster self-confidence.
