Horseback Riding
Whether you are an advanced equestrian or looking to try something new, our instructors, from accredited four-year equestrian university level programs, will trot you through beginner lessons, trail riding and advance to hunter jumping.
Beginner riders are taught correct design of position and elementary control techniques at the halt, walk, trot and canter level. Campers also learn the basics in horse care,
grooming, safety rules, and general barn procedures.
Intermediate riders work on strengthening their positions, and increasing their control on the flat as well as over fences. Riders attend classes in stable management and horse care.
Advanced riders work on using their aids softly and precisely in cooperation with the horse’s efforts on the flat and over fences at least 2’ to 2’6”. Classes are held in the show ring, in the field, on rides around camp and on trails. A camper should also be able to groom, tack, lead and mount her own horse.
Campers have the opportunity to sign up for riding lessons, horsemanship (ground) lessons, and trail rides. Each camper can do a combination of the three choices or focus on one specific program. A Gymkhana and/ or horse show is offered to campers in riding lessons.
Riders are required to wear long pants (jeans preferred), socks and riding boots with a heel (leather or rubber sole), and an ASTM-SEI approved riding helmet is required.
No riding equipment is available or for sale at Camp Seafarer. Please refer to following websites for riding apparel: horse.com, doversaddlery.com and statelinetack.com.
Camp Seafarer’s stables include 28 horse stalls, tack rooms and a classroom in the barn. Three riding rings provide personal instruction and an open field for hunter jumpers. We regret that we cannot accommodate campers' privately owned horses.
Available to 2 and 4 week campers. An additional fee is required for horseback riding.
